This post is a response to what happened just this evening. My friend lost his phone minutes after we split. I don’t know if it was robbed, snatched, stole. Its either he dropped it or someone took it.
This post is not just about pickpockets it will also include snatchers, armed robbers, and or spotting like minded criminals.
1. Stay Alert – Always be alert. You never know who is the artist. Have a keen eye for those who have suspicious moves and for those who carry suspicious things.
I was walking at edsa-taft one afternoon, listening to music with the help of my phone when I just felt like my bag is moving. Surely, I looked back, and there, a man with a towel in his hands was unzipping my bag. He went away afterwards.
I was inside the jeepney when two pickpockets went in. How do I know? They were carrying brown envelopes in which there is hardly anything inside. Pickpockets use shielding to hide their hand from other people. They can use anything as long as it is big enough to hide their hands.
2. Have a weapon by your side – I always carry around an expandable/collapsible baton. This weapon is not just for the street criminals, it can also be for stray dogs or drunk guys when you are alone walking late night.

3. Put all your things in your bag – Focus! If your things are scattered around your pockets then your stressing yourself trying to protect all those things. Put them in one place, your bag. If you put all your things in your bag, you will be able to protect all your things all at once.
But what if the robber got hold of my bag? Keep reading.
4. Your bag is a weapon! If the robber only has bladed weapon and is somehow a meter away, your bag could be the barrier or the shield against the robbers advances.
If the robber got hold of your bag however did not harm you. Be Thankful.
On a side note. I have had instances where, walking at the street late at night, around 7 dogs surrounded me and barked at me.!Good thing is I have my bag with me. I just swayed it around and they run away.
5. Run! Running is one of the best strategies that you can do if being threatened by a robber. The faster that you can run the better.
The video below is from the series “The Real Hustle”. The video digs out how pickpocketers work.
While on my way to school and sitting beside the Jeepney driver, a man sat beside me and his companion sat at the seat at his back. Minutes Later…
The guy at the backseat is giving a knife to the first guy beside me. “Give me your phone!”, told by the guy beside me. I told them that I dont’ have a cellphone. I offered to give them 500 bucks because of it. The first guy told again to Just give my cellphone. I casually told him that I seriously don’t have one, just this. My 500 pesos. The Guy beside me searched my bag and told his accomplice that I only have money. His accomplice asked to just Give the boy back his money. They said sorry and went down.
Harnessing the power of suggestion, wit, and peace of mind, you can get out of a rough situation at peace, unharmed, complete.
Stay safe.
