Days ago, It came to my mind to write about the mobile lifestyle. Mobile lifestyle is about earning and staying connected while travelling. So let me start by telling you a story.

I made a webpage using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, published it on the net and look it up using Mozilla Firefox. It works fine. I said to myself  ”this page should also work fine on other browsers”.

So I upgraded my Firefox and Internet explorer. I Installed Google Chrome and Opera. I opened up my published web on IE, Chrome, and Opera and… it’s not opening up.

But my story is not about my webpage, it is about how I discovered the beauty of Google and other online services.

I’ve stumbled upon John Chow’s How I run my online business from a web browser. I said, “that would be cool”.

There, John, tells the world that somehow he does not anymore need his laptop to run business, all he need is to have access to a web browser in which you can avail from computer facilities.

John uses the power of WordPress for his blogging services, Google Mail for email, Google Docs for writing, Aweber for handling his email list, Google Calendar to handle appointments and reminders, Hootsuite for managing his twitter account, Meebo for instant messaging, flickr for image storage, Pixlr for image editing, and Youtube for video storage. All done with just a web browser.

As I am writing this, the only program that is running on my pc is Google chrome. This piece of writing is being done using Google Docs. My instant messenger is up courtesy of Meebo. On a side note, this is where my story comes in. Because of me, wanting to check if my page can be viewed at chrome and opera, I got hold of chrome and love it. Now I know how to optimize it.

To live a mobile lifestyle is to live with an alternative that you can earn while traveling and having fun spending the time of your life. To me, all gadgets that I could need is to have a laptop, an internet connection, and a browser. With these  I could stay connected from almost anywhere.

What do you need for a mobile lifestyle?

You need things that will make you stay connected for connections sake and you need the tools for earning income.

Staying connected is optional. If your business is automated and or is handled by a trustworthy person, then no worries and just enjoy the travel.

  • A phone – You could make calls to your secretary that is handling your offline business or businesses.
  • A Laptop could also be used as an alternative. If you don’t have an offline business you could be either be doing freelance Jobs, doing network marketing, making membership sites, being an affiliate (internet marketer).
  • A Computer/Desktop –  If you don’t want to bring with you phones and laptops you could rent a computer from stores. As from what we have stated above. You may only need a browser.

Necessities for traveling

Aside from the gadgets you also need to bring some clothes to wear. An ample amount of cash. You could use a credit card or a debit card for as an alternative to cash. Identification cards. A passport if your’e going to travel internationally. And don’t forget the Digital Camera to capture the moments. A swiss knife would be handy.

How about Everything else? Throw them out. You don’t need them. Your purpose of travel is to experience the world. Do not bring with you a cubicle based work for  works sake lifestyle. Do not bring with you your worries and problems. Now go out there and experience a time of your life!

Update April 13, 2011: I no longer use Google Chrome. Opera is much better. Get it HERE
